The Alabama State 公园 Division operates and maintains 21 state parks encompassing approximately 48,000 acres of land and water in Alabama. Many State 公园 positions are filled through the State Personnel Department and fall under the merit system. The merit system is based on competitive selection, following the principle that positions are filled on an equal opportunity basis. Permanent jobs with the State are filled by appointment from eligible lists made up of people who have successfully passed an examination, or have met the minimum requirements for a training and experience evaluation. Salaried or merit positions are filled by selecting an employee from an employment register established by the Alabama State Personnel Department. Non-merit jobs may be offered at individual parks and offices. Hourly employees are hired at each park by the park staff. The rate of pay is determined by the type work performed. Most hourly employment is seasonal. There are some full-time hourly positions that may offer paid insurance and retirement after one year of employment.
